We are so happy to welcome new birds to the apple blossom loft. They have spent the day in sunshine, pecking seed from the earth and flying from perch to perch.

Fountain Square Release

We conducted a beautiful dove release at the Invisible Kids Project website launch event on Fountain Square yesterday.  Holly Schlaack and team IKP are working hard to bring awareness and positive support to fix a struggling foster care system. Learn more at www.invisiblekids.org.

Cletus says hello

We have had 5 new birds born to the loft so far this season and they are all in training. Except for Cletus here. He is just sprouting his feathers.

Picnic outdoors

The beautiful weather we have had lately allows our birds to enjoy eating outside. I wouldn't say they are careful eaters so we are glad we don't have to clean up any mess they make while picking for their favorite seeds.

Opening Day 2014

The break in winter weather gives our birds an opportunity to fly freely. They are practicing leaving and returning to the loft. This training is vital to grow their natural ability to find their way back home safely after a release.

Lonesome Dove

It's been cold outside we turned to watching old movies on Netflix. Watched a lot of this one until I found out there were no doves in it.

The Popes dove release today

Two white doves were released by children standing alongside Pope Francis in St. Peter's Square today as a peace gesture as the Pope appealed for peace In the Ukraine. Unfortunately aggressive birds that have focused on the square as a place to hunt for food were waiting to attack the birds.  That's why we are selective about our release sites and only release from covered baskets or cages so as not to attract attention from predatory birds.

Despicable Me Wedding

My kids loved DM2. I loved the fact that the animators chose to use a dove release to help make the final wedding scene a delightful event.
